History:

The LDRC was formed in 1979 when a group of racing Enthusiasts decided that Leinster should have a Race club like Leonora,Laverton and Wiluna so as to create a more Racing in the North Eastern Goldfields.

A general meeting was called in April 1979 and a decision was made to approach the WATC for permission to form a Race Club.

The first president of the LDRC was Mr Leo Boni and the Secretary was Ms Shirley Cox with a good representative of experienced racing people making up the committee. This was granted in May 1979 and the Club set about planning and Building the course and facilities.

The track was planned by Mr Jim Steinhauser who was the handicapper in the goldfields at the time.

Because of limited area to locate the track Jim had come up with the idea of having a 1200 Metre track similar to one he had seen in Queensland and the club agreed with the idea which in turn makes it a good for spectators to watch the racing.

In October 1979 the first Race Meeting was held and consisted of 6 Local Bred Races ( being Horses that had never raced in a registered race ) and 2 Races for Registered horses.

Only approved riders were permitted to ride at the meeting.

As time went by the programme was changed to allow more registered races and less local bred and then eventually it was decided to have only Registered Races with professional Jockeys. Like all Clubs the LDRC has seen some major changes in track conditions and course improvements over the years and now run what is considered to be a well run community Club with the support of RWWA and all officials.

Next Year (2019) in October will be our 40th anniversary – more information to be provided in 2019 via our Facebook page.
